Nestled in the heart of Succoro, North Goa, lies this 100-year old Indo-Portuguese home
restored by benicio homes goa.
The Developer, Mr Aqeeb Mapari, visionary behind benicio homes goa, acquired a
sprawling sloping plot that housed a charming, albeit aged Goan-Portuguese residence.
His ambition was to transform this humble relic into a luxurious estate that would stand as
a testament to the region’s rich heritage. With a keen eye for design, thanks to his
background as an interior designer, Mr. Aqeeb was determined to preserve the essence of
the original structure while elevating it to meet the demands of contemporary living.
Goa Luxury Villas
In this transformation of a classic Goan house, the architect “Ms Elizabeth Kurian”
expertly blended restoration, reconstruction, and modern additions to create a seamless
fusion of traditional charm and contemporary luxury. The original structure, built with
thick load-bearing walls and laterite stone, featured a charming verandah and two rooms,
characteristic of old Goan homes with arched windows and Mangalore-tiled roofs.
However, the rear part of the house had fallen into neglect and was in poor condition.
The decision was made to retain the front portion, demolish the rear, and expand the
space by adding a lower ground floor and a first floor, with a staircase linking all three
levels. The design now includes formal living and dining areas, five bedrooms, and a
private entertaining space complete with a swimming pool, pavilion, and gardens, along
with a lift and servant’s quarters.
The exterior was reimagined with a new verandah and pillars in the traditional Goan style,
while the interior saw the removal of internal walls in the front section to create a vast
living and dining space. The original arches and windows were preserved, while a new
stair lobby and lift were added, connecting the new structure and allowing natural light
and ventilation to flow through the house.
The first floor was added above the old structure, housing a master bedroom suite with a
terrace and a skylight over the living room. The lower ground floor now features a
bedroom that opens to the pool and gardens, with a tucked-away servant’s quarter. The
backyard has been transformed into a luxurious entertaining area, complete with a pool,
deck, and pavilion.
This restored and expanded Goan home is a perfect blend of heritage and modern living,
offering both comfort and style in a seamless design.
